3 Reasons People Don't Go To The Dentist And What You Can Do To Remedy It

Posted on

Although most people know that going to the dentist is very important, many people put it off. They don't go to the dentist as often as they should and then they pay for it later. Here are some common reasons that people don't go to the dentist and how you can remedy that problem.

1. Money

One of the main reasons that people don't go to the dentist is because they don't feel like they can afford it. However, you have to change your mindset about paying for the dentist. For instance, paying for a cleaning and check up is usually under one hundred dollars. Then if you need a minor filling, it could cost a few hundred dollars. While that is a good deal of money, consider what will happen if you don't go. If you had a small cavity that went undetected, it will get bigger and bigger over time. The longer it goes ignored, the more likely it is to become so large that you need a crown, root canal, or even an extraction. These things could cost thousands of dollars, which is why it is better to budget for going to the dentist every 6 months and catching problems while they are small. This will make all the difference.

2. Discomfort

If the reason you avoid the dentist is because you are uncomfortable at the dentist, there are many things you can do to feel more comfortable. The dentist is able to give you multiple things to help you feel better. For instance, you can take a valium, get nitrous oxide, or even be put under. Some places will do sedation dentistry where you will take what feels like a quick nap and wake up feeling groggy, but also not remembering anything that happened. If you are uncomfortable or scared of dental work, talk to your dentist about all your options.

3. Numb Mouth

If you don't like the feeling of having a numb mouth, you should consider doing the procedure without the numbing, if the cavity isn't close to the root. Many people get their dental work done without any medication. In addition, some places do laser dentistry where they fix the cavity with small lasers so that they don't have to numb the area.

As you can see there are many ways to remedy avoiding the dentist. For more information, talk to a professional.
